Eating Vegetarian At: Denny's

At first you might not think of Denny’s as a veggie-friendly place, but if you work around the menu it is fairly easy to get good vegetarian options with minimal effort.

Breakfast: For vegetarian options, Denny’s has eggs, cheese, pancakes, etc, but the best breakfast option will probably be the Fit Fare Veggie Skillet. You can make this a vegan option by simply telling them to not add the eggs. This is also probably the most healthy option on the breakfast menu. They also have the Loaded Veggie Omelette for you Lacto-ovo vegetarians out there. For breakfast sides they also have:

  • Grits
  • Oatmeal
  • Hash browns
  • Potatoes
  • Fruit
  • Toast
  • Yogurt (vegetarian)
  • English Muffins (vegetarian)
  • Buttermilk Biscuit (vegetarian)
  • Egg whites (vegetarian)

Lunch: Only one of their burgers in vegan, and that is the veggie patty sandwich, but it isn’t even on the menu, it’s request-only. And make sure you ask specifically for no cheese. The patty itself has 16 grams of protein and 165 Calories, which you can get on a whole wheat bun. Sides for lunch include:

  • Fries
  • Garden Salad
  • Hash Brown
  • Seasoned Fries
  • Fruit
  • Veggies and Ranch (Vegetarian)
  • Onion Rings (Vegetarian)

Appetizers: What would dinner at a restaurant be without appetizers? Generally appetizers are not vegan, and Denny’s is in no way different on that front, but what you have are:

  • Mozzarella Sticks (Vegetarian)
  • Pancake Puppies (Vegetarian)
  • Onion Rings (Vegetarian)
  • Jalapeno Bottle Caps (Vegetarian)
  • Cheese Quesadilla (Vegetarian)
  • Chips and Queso (Vegetarian)

Dinner: Dinner is a quintessential part of eating at any restaurant, but vegan options even here are scarce. In fact, they don’t exist. Even the pasta sauce has dairy in it. You can always eat the Denny’s vegan burger for dinner though. But for you non-vegan pesceterians out there:

  • Salmon (Pescetarian)
  • Fish and Chips (Pescetarian)
  • Tilapia (Pescetarian)

Sides

  • Broccoli
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Dippable veggies (Vegetarian)
  • French fries
  • Sauteed/steamed Zucchini and Squash
  • Hash browns
  • Corn
  • Whole Grain Rice

You can also ask for any of their salads without meat, but I am sure I already gave my opinion on not having any substitutions for protein. But vegetarians will like their Broccoli Cheese Soup, and Pescetarians will enjoy the Clam Chowder.

Kids: The kids menu might be the most vegetarian-friendly, as it includes:

  • Mac and Cheese (Vegetarian)
  • Cheese Pizza (Vegetarian)
  • Spaghetti (Vegetarian)

And you can make a Jr Grand Slam breakfast without meat in it. Sides can also include:

  • Apple Slices
  • Banana Slices
  • Grapes
  • Corn
  • Broccoli
  • Salads
  • Dippable Veggies (Vegetarian)

They also have no vegan dessert options. The food choices here do seem pretty good though, they have a vegan burger, as well as other vegan food options for just about every time of day. There is even a ton of vegetables and fruit to choose from as well, so this seems like a pretty good option for the vegetarian, and even the passing vegan.
